Happy Monday Ya’ll!!!!

Hope everyone had a fantastic weekend!  Friday night we saw West Side Story with Brock’s parents (it was amazing), Saturday we did a ton of shooting for the blog, and Sunday night we watched the Super Bowl…and definitely ate our weight in buffalo wings! What did you guys think about JT’s performance or the game in general?  Our house was pretty divided on who we wanted to win which made it way more fun.

Anywho, today’s post is all about a very dear friend of ours and someone who has made a significant impact on our career.  You have probably heard us talk about Tommy Hicks and his business Hick’s Truck & Trailer Repair a bunch on Facebook. Not only is Tommy one of the nicest guys you will ever meet, he is THE reason our first single was able to make it to radio!

I’ll give you guys the short version of this story.  About 3 years ago, we cut our first single, “Burnin’ The Night Down” in the studio.  We loved the song, and desperately wanted to get it to radio, but after reviewing our financial situation and calculating the cost of promotion, we knew that doing it on our own was just not a possibility.

We tried setting up a “Go Fund Me” and not going to lie, it ended up being a huge flop.  Frustrated, we decided to take matters into our own hands and find sponsors.  We put together a sponsorship package and went door to door to local businesses, and were rejected more times then we probably care to admit.  We had about thrown in the towel when my mom suggested we go visit a friend of hers that owned his own auto repair shop.

My first thought was, “why in the world would the owner of an auto shop be interested in sponsoring us?”  At that point though, we had nothing left to lose, so off we went to ask this stranger to believe in us and our music!  Well, believe in us he did, and we have never been more thankful to someone for being willing (maybe crazy) enough to take a chance on us!

We were truly to the point of thinking our song would never get to radio, but thanks to Tommy we were able to make that happen and so much more.  Tommy and his guys also take care of the maintenance on the vehicles we use when we travel, and although we try our best every time to pay him for his work, he refuses and says it’s an exchange for front row tickets the first time we play “The Grand Ole Opry”!  Tommy, if you are reading this you have yourself a deal!  We also, occasionally show up with Krispy Kreme doughnuts…that never hurts!

We learned some very valuable lessons from that experience though and if we could give any future artists or entrepreneurs advice it would be this.  First, NEVER give up on yourself…even when something seems impossible…if you want it bad enough, find a way to make it happen!  Second, surround yourself with people who build you up and believe in you.  Even one person that believes in you can make all the difference. Do not make room for negative people in your life, they will only slow you down and keep you further away from your goals!

I don’t like to talk about or focus on the down times we’ve had in our career, but I felt that for this particular story it was necessary so that you all could understand how much Tommy means to us!  And I did promise to share the good, bad and ugly with you soooooooo………

Tommy is truly the most honest person you could ever hope to find and we highly, HIGHLY recommend going to him for anything you might need done on your vehicle!  He works on all vehicles, not just trucks and trailers, and offers everything from Oil changes, auto repair, tires and wheels, brake services…basically you name it he can do it!  Also, as a SPECIAL PROMOTION, if you mention you saw this blog post he is offering $10 off of any service (bringing a $35 oil change down to $25 ya’ll)!!!!

Tommy is located at 1653 W. Lloyd in Ozark, MO….just tell him we sent ya!  And side note, how sweet is the Model T classic car he restored and let us borrow for this photo shoot? Coolest shoot ever!!!! I literally thought I was going to have to pick Brock’s mouth up off the ground when he saw it!

I hope this post provided you with some inspiration or maybe a little motivation to get out there and kick some rear end today!  Let’s make big things happen this week!  Who’s with us?!!!! 🙂
